My Computer (icon) stops responding

Once i start my pc and wait for everything to stop loading, and click on the My Computer icon, and click on the local c: drive, My Computer stops responding. When i end My Computer, my desktop goes totally blank and i have to wait 2 minutes for the icons to show up again. Does anybody know why this is happening.

Run a Check Disk on the HD. Sounds like you have a bad header sector.

Actually, i think it has to do something with my lan, because when i take out the lan cable i can get right into the c drive without it freezing. Does anybody know why the lan is slowing everything down?
