My audio is screwed up sometimes

I have been having problems with my audio sometimes just stopping and making high pitched noises. Then the only way it will go back is if I restart the computer. It is really weird. I have Altec Lansing ADA885. How can I fix this problem?

Have you updated the sound card drivers?

dont know if this will help you or not...but i had the exact same problem with a rockwell card in windows 98. Turned out to be a bios issue. Flashing did the trick. You should check if you have the latest drivers first and then maybe see if there is an update for your bios
