how do i stop that crap ass thing from starting up? i tried doin the msconfig startup stuff but the piece of crap keeps coming back.

u mean at start up ? if so get a copy id antispy it in the download section this will stop it u also have the choice of removeing it completly

there is a option in the MSN config box to stop it starting every time windows does...

i personal think MSN sucks ass big time, so i just deleted it.. there is a guide to getting rid of it in the XPE program tweak section

Go to C: WINDOWS/inf/sysoc.inf open this with note pad.
You'll see a line that reads:
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7

Remove the hide eg.

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7

Windows Messenger will now appear in Add or Remove Programs under (add remove windows components) then remove it. You can always reinstall it the same way.

it is your choice, but Trillian still can't warn you when you have new mail without having to look at it/ hover the mouse on it and suspend other progs. I personnally really like Msn Messenger's way to pop-up a nice little and gentle window in the sys. tray, I like being surprised when new mail arrives
You can tweak Messenger so that the minimum is displayed.

Some people like to do it the hard way, but i like the easy way:

to stop messenger start with windows, simply open the messenger window -> tools -> options -> preference -> uncheck run when windows starts.

you are talkin about Windows Messenger right?
