MSN Messenger disconnects

XP SP1 running on a cable modem. Messenger keeps disconnecting. Yahoo was doing it to. Here's the thing. I've got another old machine running Win2K. Also behind the same Linksys router connecting to the same cable modem. No problems on that box. Any ideas?

Thanks Benny, but it was happening prior to SP1. Actually, I recently installed SP1 hoping it would quit.

Check on your NIC card, see if there are any conflicts between XP and the card. It may be such a thing that the card you have is not fully functional with XP. See if the manufacturer has put out new drivers for it.

NIC is an SiS 900 on a Sony VAIO. The NIC is supposed to be supported on XP. Updated it with new one from SiS site. Still a problem.

try and check you Linksys firmware. And update it if you can. I had a similar problem with my machine until I updated the firmware on the Linksys. Then no more issues with the various chat proggies I run.
:D

I've got a Linksys BEFSR41. I did that a while back, and I'm wondering if that caused it. I'm on ver. 1.42.7, Apr 02 2002. What ver are you running?

I have the same Linksys but i am not sure of the firmware version... I am at work right now. But I think I might have the same... check Linksys's website and see whats the latest version

I'll check it out, but don't forget I've got another Win2K machine on the same router with no problems there.

I actually have 4.7.0041 and am having difficulty finding anything newer.

Also note, this used to happen with Yahoo IM as well, but for some reason is only with MSN IM now.

It has to be this specific machine. The other machine (Win2K) works fine without hiccup.

I am having the same problem, using a Linksys router. Two computers are connected; a WinXP and a WinME. The WinME doesn't have any problems with MSN, AIM, ICQ, IRC etc being connected 24/7, but on the WinXP machine, these programs get disconnected from time to time.

Any ideas? heh

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
