MSI MOBO bad IDE?

Hi guys need some opinions on this. got a call from my sister earlier today, and shes having some problems with her computer. Apparently the primary IDE port on her MOBO is no longer detecting her HD. She's already tried another HD (brand new)and same thing, but the MOBO is still detecting her secondary IDE devices. To me it sounds like the primary IDE has died for some reason. Anyone know if this is common with MSI boards? If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
