[Movie Review] Casino Royale

he was surely potrayed as a pretty boy, they went out of there way to show women swooning, they went out of their way to show his build

sazar, he turned heads walking up the stairs, there was no demanor, there was no dialogue, there was no sharp tongue he wasn't saying anything, there was just him being ugly...ugly, weirdheaded, big eared ugly guyness was going on in this scene and this turned womens heads...I don't think so, sorry.

my opinion, they can leave the "drop dead gorgous"" stuff for the other bonds, this one does not fit, he's not good looking, no amount of theme makes him good looking and that part does not work, you can't cast John DeSantis as a midget in a movie and you can't cast this guy as ahead turner

now, if they wanted a guy that looks like alfred e nueman, craig would be fine in that part

we're really taking this very small issue way too far..my fault, I brought it up

movie was good, he was excellant and all in all a good bond that needs some tweaks as they all did.

Perris, the fact you are judging a guys looks this critically m8, I dunno :)

Maybe we do need to have a stiff vodka-martini one of these days ;)

Okay just saw it.

Loved the first 2 hours. The ending left me scratching my head. Who was glasses guy? Where did he come from? Also WHY was Bond in that final hand holding that crappy of cards? I know its Bond and all but gimme a break! I took one look at the board and knew what he was holding, its absurd that you had a hand like that
with the nut flush loosing to 8s full loosing to aces full loosing to a straight flush
it reminded me of Mel Gibson in Maverick. Aside form that it was great. Not sure who all noticed it but in the airport, the guy who sets of the metal detector and gets searched as JB walks by is Richard Branson. I thought that was great. The newest Bond girl could be the hottest woman on the planet. She's right up there with Jessica Alba and Scarlett Johansson at least.

You are talking about the one in the red dress and not Eva Green right? Yeah she is incredibly hot in the movie. Eva Green is pretty, not sexy.

And I concur with your views on Alba and Johansson :devious:

They were both hot. But I was actually referring to Eva Green, I just didn't know her name until I looked her up on IMDB. I didn't realize she was in The Dreamers until now, hated that movie but she is really really naked in there so I may have to watch it again now. I'm such a sicko!

in a limit game, there are a few circumstances you hold that hand and you're still playing good winning poker;

if it's a timid game, nobody raised and you are close to last to act, this hand is fine and has good value over the long run

in a no limit game the odds change substantially and the hand becomes much more playable.

If you get in "cheap", cheap being relative to the size of the game, for instance if you can get in for the price of the big blind, double or even triple the big blind, the times you make a hand that wins makes up for all the times you loose with the hand

no limit is a differant animal then limit, there become "implied odds which improve the "payoff" over the mathematic frequency the cards win

this means you not only take into concideration the amount of money in the pot, you also take into concideration what you will get called with if you make the hand...you have to know how to fold the hand when it gets expensive and that's the only restriction on that hand in a no limit game

in a limit game, implied odds don't change too much the value of a hand becuse you can only raise the amount of the big blind, in a no limit game, you can raise as much as your oponents have.

in no limit, you can predict a person with top two, or top pair good kicker will call a big bet

we don't know the action before the flop, if there was no raising or only a token raise, this hand is well worth playing in a no limit game

as far as how many good hands at the tablle, over a long period of time you're going to get one of those and in a no limit game, that will be the end of the game

here's an example, though it wasn't no limit, it was a 20 40 stud game I was playing just two weeks ago.

I had pocket 8's with the low card to bring it in for 5 bucks

an ace raised who typically raises everytime he has an ace, a 4 called a jack called and it was up to me.

normally I fold this hand, thinking the jack probably had my 8's beat, but there was a jack on the table and there were no 8's, I didn't think the ace had aces.

the next card I'm delt an 8 which is very nice of course, and on the fityh card I was dealt the fourth 8

long story short, the ace actually was "rolled up" (three aces to start the hand) and made aces full of nines the same time I made 4 eights, the jack got out of the hand early, the "four" actually made kings full believe it or not

huge betting of course, I played the four of a kind very slow, that aces full played the hand very slow, the kings full played the hand very fast...huge pot, everybody had what they thought were hands that could not loose

another story, a pot limit game;

pocket jacks, pocket kings, pocket aces

this is the casino I was shift manager...the jacks flopped four jacks with a king on the table, so he has the nuts, 4 jacks against kings full, pocket aces stayed in the pot even though he should have folded with all of the action that went on, turned an ace, rivered an ace for four aces...this hand broke the table.

so these hands certainly happen over a long period of time

Perris I have to play you heads up sometime. Maybe the OSNN get together in Vegas!

I agree with what you've said. The main point which the eliminates all questions I have about this hand .... We never saw any early hand action. So we don't know just how you get into a hand like that.

I have personally seen two people holding AA push all in and loose to a guy holding QQ when he hit two queens on the turn and river. I've also seen a guy hit runner runner for a royal flush. Ultra rare occurrences but they do happen.

Hehe nice one :)
funny ray, your post reminded me of a pretty good "bond , juggs bouncing around in the credits" story.

I think everyone knows my sister trains animals for the entertainment industry, ie, the monkey on friends, birds and dogs everywhere, we had the members here vote for one of her commercials during the super bowl last year.

her name is benay (my parents liked those weird names) and her company is "benay's birds and animals"

weird al yankovich (spelling?) was doing a bond take off with lesly neilson (spelling?) as "the bond"...movie called spy hard

my sister's firm (benay's birds and animals) was contracted to handle the animals

al wanted us to train a dog to swim under water, (we used a border collie (spelling?)

we had a bunch of things going on, I never saw the movie to see what made it in and what didn't, but I do know al wanted a big bird flying into the camera while some juggular (spelling?) credit babe was danicing around with her juggacilular girations (spelling?)

so, I forgot if it was a rooster or a turkey, I think a rooster, but when you are watching the credits, you'll see miss bondular, stipperular, jugguliar dancing babish around in the bondish shadow juggular bouncing thingy thing bond movies do, you'll see a big ugly bird flying toward the camera

I AM THE GUY THAT THREW THE BIRD INTO FRAME!!!

true

anyway, stripperish, juggular, shadowy, dancing credit chick dug me, (couldn't blame her, I am perris after all), we flirted a bit, my sister got REALLY pissed and said I was NOT allowed to "fratanize"

*damn it*

true true true

Ok,
Finally i saw this movie.
I give it a 6/10, at very best.
This was not a bond movie.
It could have been an ok movie, if it werent bond.
All this did was make bond into a stupid wimp.
Giving up career for a woman?
Loosing 40 million?
Getting played by a woman?
Come on, this isnt bond!

You did understand that this is a reboot right? Just like Batman Begins. The whole point of this one was to show how Bond got so jaded. In this one he was a brash kid basically, he does things we don't expect Bond to do. To each his own I guess.

What I'm wondering now is that since you've got such a huge man-crush on Pierce .... would him being in this one have changed your opinion?

From what I heard, most of the people who didn't want to watch this bond movie was coz bond wasn't good-looking in this one. I can understand that from a woman's point of view, but for guys?? they must be g@y! :p

the people reluctant to see the film was because the bond cast doesnt fit the physical characteristics we imagine according to our perception

his physiology doesn't fit the original writing of the charachter, and certainly not our expected impresion of what bond should be

for instance, they should never cast Rosey o"Donall as brook Shields, and believe me, that's the same analogy, this guy is just plain ugly, the more I hear from people who went, the more this is apparently going to be the downfall of this installment of the franchise...now, Rosey might do an incredible portrayal of brook but that wouldn't matter, she would be miss cast np matter how well she protrayed the life of brook

Craig is misscast unless they take out the drop dead gorgeous sccenes, the problem with taking those scenes out...they are indeed part of the bond mystique...it's obviously hard to get people in the theater who subscribed to the entire franchise even if they did remove the scenes

Absolutely, i think he is a mis-cast.
If pierce were cast in this exact movie, with all the lines the same.
Yes, my feelings would be better about it.
But no the movie would still have stunk as a Bond.
You don't become a Gentlemen from being a rash thug, you become jaded yes.
but there is no possibility for Craig to be a gentlemen.
I still fail to see why the let Pierce go.
Die another day brought in over 500 million dollars!
The most successful bond to date.

Don't get me wrong, I think Pierce was the best Bond since Connery. But they attempted to do something a little different and to do that they had to start all over. The probably should have gotten a new M since Judy Dench has been in so many of the recent films but thats not a major problem for me. Actually if they really wanted a fresh start to the franchise they should have gone with Tarantino as writer/director and just let him go crazy. That would have been the best Bond ever.
