I've never paid much attention to James Bond before. In fact, I've never completely watched any of the previous movies. However, after watching Casino Royale, I think I should have.

I don't have any way to really compare him to Pierce Brosnan, but Daniel Craig does justice to the Bond persona. You can forget about the early worries about him not being "Bond enough".

The other actors also do a good job, particularly Eva Green (Vesper) who manages to keep up with Bond. The story is unpredictable, it surprised me on at least a couple occassions where I thought I had it all figured out.

The action scenes, as expected, are just awesome. The movie has an amazingly fast pace until the last 25 mins or so and I can't really say much about that without giving all the good details away. There is a constant tension as well from all the suspense.

You will be entertained for 2 hours and 45 minutes. Go see it. Can't wait for the next one :D

Just seen the movie. agree with you that he is a good bond, and i hope to see him in the next one. a much rougher and tougher bond! as for the story i dont agree. it all is typically bond....and typically hollywood. nothing new twists, but a good entertaining movie. what it should be in other words. 4 out of 6.

Pierce Brosnan all the way.
I want the movie to fail, thus i am not gonna see it :)
Like my logic?

Went for it last night. Fun movie with a nice, fast pace throughout.
The funky animated opening sequence was very cool too. :D

Now what i dont get,
I wanted to see the movie tonight, for the action.
But there were only 4 showtimes.
and the only one i could make is 9:55, who wants to see a 2.5 hour movie at 9:55?
I kno i dont.
That was at both the theaters near me, all 3 actually.

I told you he would rock at bond

[after just being thru a life threatening event]
Bond: Give me a vodka martini
Bartender: Would you like it shaken or stirred?
Bond: Does it look like I give a damn?

Anyway, its getting some great reviewed. It is less hollywood I am afraid than previous ones, its a much more gritty english like movie - tho very little of the film would appear to be in England :D

Didnt it loose to Happy Feet?
Maybe there are a bunch of fellows out there boycotting the movie like me, since i want it to fail :)

now that's bond the way I would write him

wasn't going to see it, now I guess I will

I wish I had a good british accent, I would have made a very good bond...oh well

:(
Im a fan of Pierce Brosnan, and of course Sean Connery but....
I want Pierce back, none of these shenanigans they are pulling now :)

Since when was Bond a hollywood movie? :dead:

I went to see it on Weds evening, got really peed off coz the last 5mins the screen went blank. Don't know what happened to Vesper after she locked herself in the lift and plunging into the water. :(

oh, you gotta love the torture scene of Bond near the end though.

Please do not read this spoiler if you haven't seen the movie and want to.

She pushes herself away from him and drowns just as he breaks the door down and drags her to the top, but she is dead.

You see some bloke walking away with the briefcase with the Casino winnings in it.

Bond vows never to get close to a woman again calling her a bitch etc.
M tells him that she was being blackmailed by the bad folks and her boyfriend (who had given her the necklace) had been captured.

He checks her phone in her bag and finds a message to Mr. White and realises that she had not left her phone behind by accident and wanted to be followed.

Bond calls Mr. White and as he answered is shot in the legs by automatic fire, he crawls up the steps and at the top of the steps is he shooter. "The names Bond, James Bond" - credits.

Again resist the urge if you want to see it.
Also feel the opening credits sucked a bit, no women jiggling around :p
And the theme didn't do much for me.

Hahaha
I read the spoiler, seems like something i wouldnt like in bond.

I totally forgot about this thread lol.

I'll preface it by saying I was mildly distracted by a beautiful woman I went to the movie with, and the copious amounts of wine we were both ingesting :smoker:

About the movie itself

I was hoping for a little more substance than the pop-corn flavor that Pierce Brosnan had introduced. While not a bad bond, people don't realize how crap he is compared to Moore and Connery. I personally prefer Connery, but it's only because of his in your face style, while still being funny as heck.

Roger Moore didn't look look he could take on my grand-mother, let alone the biggest thugs in the world. Another Bond I REALLY liked was Timothy Dalton. He was stylistically different than Moore or Connery, but he had a physical style about him, similar to Craig. Maybe he was cast too early?

Anyways, the movie opens nicely and sets the tone well. I was disappointed with the lack of scantily clad (or nude) wimens floating around but whatever, Eva Green was in the flick, thats all I needed ;)

The opening story through the middle is done relatively well. Some loose ends, some minor pacing problems but Craig IS Bond and does a damn good job at it. A sort of toned down version of the adrenaline junkie that Statham was in the Transporter, sans the ludicrous (but entertaining) fight scenes. I only saw 1 action sequence that was over the top but it's acceptable :)

The latter part of the movie is where I have a problem. It seems spliced together it parts, there are minor continuity problems and massive pacing problems. I prefer a movie that has a solid "tick rate" throughout, i.e. not much variance.

Bond is very up and down. It's a good thing they have a solid opening and middle, else I would have been very disappointed.

As is, the conclusion and the steely eyed look that Craig brings totally redefines THIS bond. It's good, definitely worth a look/see ;)

4/5 OSNN stars. I overlooked the pacing issues for the rank, else it would have been lower.

They actually got away with the briefcase???? Thought they all died in that sinking building. lol :p

Has anyone noticed all those nice gadgets in this movie compared to the previous movies?? :D

Edited with spoiler tags. Some people still haven't seen the movie :)

And yes, I loved the billions of gadgets in the movie :smoker:

Well the writers had no idea if they were going to bring in Q branch or even Moneypenny.
