Mouse wire damaged?

I've been using a Razer Boomslang 2000 mouse for years, and it's been great to me. But recently, I couldn't get the mouse to work. When I adjust and bend the wire, it works, but when it gets out of place, it doesn't. I tried fiddling with the wire some more, and it just stopped working. Is there any way to fix this, or should I ditch this expensive mouse?

That "expensive" mouse probably isn't very expensive anymore. Mice usually aren't worth fixing and I don't really know of any other way of fixing your issue other than removing the cord and replacing it with a cord from another. You would probably need to unsolder the existing cord from the PC board in the mouse and resolder the new cable. If you are up to it then go ahead, but I would just buy a new mouse.

I've looked inside it, it comes off like a plug.

It's a great mouse, but too bad it had to break like this.

I guess I should just get a Logitech Dual Optical for $16 on eBay.

Or I could get the new Razer Mystify 2100/2500...

ahh the boomslang, well go buy a cheep mouse and rewire it.

or upgrade to a MX700

Any mouse wire would do? I would need a USB mouse wire with a plug that plugs into the slot in the PC part of the mouse.

find out what part of the cord is damaged. you could probably cut off the end and re-solder it back on (losing an inch or two of cordage).

or maybe the broken contact is in the plug on the circuit board of the mouse.

its not easy repairing a cord, or replacing it, email the makers and see what they will charge for a replacement. expensive mouse, so mabey worth it.

Heh, do you remember when Karna and the Razer line went rock bottom? Can I even ask for a replacement anymore?

well the trouble is there site says they dont offer warranty yet, pain in the ass, may be worth a nice e-mail to them to see, but i doubt it very much now. you will have to be creative to replace it. i dare say a standard usb ext cable will do the job.

I don't think just an extension cable will do it. The problem with the wire is near the mouse itself, where it looks bent out of shape.

buy the usb cable, cut off the end you don't need, cut off the end of the bad cable that connects to the mouse, and solder it to the rest of the new cable.

 this is a ball mouse?!?

throw it away. mx500 or mx700, STAT. ;)

I already have an mx500, but it's not the same great feel as the Boomslang.

I could try that, when I buy a soldering kit.

Or I could get a Logitech Dual Optical. Two 800dpi = 1600dpi. Not as good as 2000 though...

Well DPI isn't all you know...

i'm not too wise on the whole optical mouse/dpi thing. i mean, my cheap $6 optical mouse i bought two years ago works perfectly fine. i can go from one pixel to the next with no problem. why would i need more accuracy than that?

I know it isn't, but I like the smooth movement.
DPI still isn't all. If you want fast acceleration and motion capabilities it's the sample rate. There are probably other factors too.

I have the sample rate at 200 on a PS/2 port, but it still doesn't compare.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
