Most expensive gaming console ever?

I think Apple had plans to make one. Wouldn't be surprised if it was theirs.

Apple made one, it flopped miserably.

They are going to make another one it seems as a "new and improved" item.

I am taking bets on it having one button.

Isn't that the MO? Oh, no one else has EVER made anything like this before. We invented it (after 3 or 4 other companies already brought it out well before-hand) and now we're going to patent it because those other companies don't have our financial muscle and call it brand new.

Hooray :smoker:

Most expensive console ever made is ... drum roll please !!!

Those massive silver records were called LaserDiscs if I remember right. My mate had one of those. Think his parents had one for kareoke or something. lol :p

Yeah, it was the Laserdisc. It was mainly used for movies, but gradually faded into obscurity around the early 2000s.

Laserdiscs, iirc, were made in the 1970s as a sort of experiment in video and audio storage... latter on, the Compact Disc would borrow the strengths of the format, and improve in areas the LD failed (hey, the CD's convenience factor in size was good enough that it was used as the basis for DVD, HD DVD, Blu-ray, and a few others). Unlike the latter tape formats Betamax and VHS, Laserdisc had distinctively higher quality (esp. against VHS! Laserdisc stores information for all 480 scanlines of NTSC, whereas VHS only stored information for 120 lines), and the video/audio quality would not erode away after each playback (something that's taken for granted nowadays in DVDs).

Another neat and new thing Laserdisc brought was the capability for multiple audio tracks. A movie can come with multiple languages on a disc (whereas you'd have to buy separate Beta/VHSes for languages), and it was the first medium that *director commentaries* appeared; commentaries still didn't become very common until DVDs became a much more prominent item.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
