More USB Support Problems

My system will not maintain the USB printer support drivers. I have a Compaq 7478 and have had this trouble with my USB devices since I've had the machine, but especially since I installed XP. I dont know if it has something to do with digitally signed drivers or not. Just installed a scanner (thanks Santa) have I have to delete the USB hub and unknown devices and reinstall the hardware every time I restart the machine. Does anyone have a solution or suggestion (aside from trashing the compaq)?

Besides the obvious (trashing the compaq), I suggest running the guantlet with your machine: bios, 4in1's, windows updates, and the very latest drivers pertaining to your trouble devices. Check out this article too:

USB has been a real pain for a lot of folks. Just keep looking for updated drivers and be sure you look in your bios to make sure you've assigned it (usb) an irq, etc. Good luck.
