modem problems

I am pretty sure this is driver related.

I purchased a new system and tried to save a few bucks by purchasing one that did not come with an OS.

I have installed Win 98 Second Edition. Everything is up and running except the modem.

Under device manager it is listed and says working properly, however, my ISP software cant set it up and...
when i use diagnostics it says communicating with modem then says could not open port.

The CD that came with the system that contains the drivers, autoruns on Windows XP. I know that i have to manually find the drivers on the cd that are related to Win 98. I thought I had found them but now I am not so sure...
please help!!

What is your modem make and model? Is it internal or external?

This error is usually related to address conflicts especially with K56 Flex modems.

More info please.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
