Modem problems

Hi

Since yesterday I've been unable to get on the 'net reliably. Sometimes when I try to dial out XP just sits there claiming it's dialling indefinitely (no tone, dialog appears saying "Dialing <isp number>"). Sometimes, it does connect, but the PC immediately freezes (no keyboard or mouse response, hard reset required). And sometimes XP thinks I don't have a modem installed and the Modems Control Panel shows that my "Best Data Fax Modem" is not present.

A day earlier it was fine. Yesterday it worked fine once out of about 15 attempts at connecting.

What could be wrong?

Thanks
Vik

new modem cost u 10 bucks rip it out of there and see how far u can throw it down the street :)

i would personaly get a external modem, they just seem better than internal ones, us-robotics data modems are very good.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
