First of all I am new to this forum. If this topic has already been covered, someplease link me to it. I did do a search before I posted this.

Ok, I have a laptop, celeron 2.2 mhz. I am running Windows XP Pro. One day I started it up and all of the icons on my desktop show up as "the white unloadable icons". Then when I go to start > programs, they show up the same way. I hope I am explaining this right. Thanks for your help.

Re: Big Problem!

Hi there and welcome to the forums - a good idea to make your subject line a litle more specific in future! Something like "missing desktop Icons" for example....

Anyways, you asked for a link if anyone thought there was a thread covering your likely cause - my guess is this should give you what you need - I am suspecting Active Desktop is involved and maybe without your being aware the option to hide desktop icons has been invoked.... Also can you check in task manager that explorer.exe is running OK?

Let us know if that rather old thread enables you to fix things OK and give more information like I said if not....

thread title changed. Is there anything specific you did ( i.e. installed, uninstalled ) just before this happened?

This is the picture of the icon that is representing every program on my desktop and start menu. Sorry the pic is so large.

Try the repair icons feature in Tweak UI microsoft's version.

That used to happen a lot under windows 98 IMMSMR.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
