Hi,

Somewhere in the endless updates on the Windows Update page, I have applied the one where it kills the functionality of this format in the address bar:

http://user:pword@1.2.3.4:80/

Does anyone know how to restore this functionality of IE using the registry?

This is meant to be a security fix. If you want to restore the old functionality, look for KB832894 in Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the update. I'm not sure I'd recommend that, but then again, I don't use IE.

Found the Reg Hack

Here's the link to the reghack from M$. http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=834489

How to disable the new default behavior for handling user information in HTTP or HTTPS URLs

To disable the new default behavior in Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer, create iexplore.exe and explorer.exe DWORD values in one of the following registry keys and set their value data to 0.

* For all users of the program, set the value in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_HTTP_USERNAME_PASSWORD_DISABLE
* For the current user of the program only, set the value in the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_HTTP_USERNAME_PASSWORD_DISABLE
