The "configuration change" closes a loophole that had allowed hackers to convert popular Web sites into virus transmitters.

Time to update people!

Yeah well, when the govt. actually got fed up and suggested the use of IE alternatives, someone had to act fast. With greateth speed cometh a wee bit of recklessness.

Just enter this into your registry. All that trouble over something so little.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{00000566-0000-0010-8000-00AA006D2EA4}]
"Compatibility Flags"=dword:00000400

To be honest with you doing a "manual" reg change is not a very good idea

lets just leave it at that.

One other mention: There are still 26 bugs that M$ has not yet patched in I.E
what a shame...........

Why not? This registry change only affects a single, rarely used activex control anyway. And I appreciate your honesty in this matter.

I think you should check your System for Infection.

To determine if the malicious code is on your computer, search for the following files:

kk32.dll
surf.dat
Steps for users of Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003:

On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, click Start, and then click Run.
In the Run box, type: cmd and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type:
dir /a /s /b &systemdrive%\kk32.dll
and then press the ENTER key to search your computer.
If the file is present, the file path is displayed. If the file is not present, a message is displayed that the system cannot find the path.
At the command prompt, type:
dir /a /s /b &systemdrive%\surf.dat
and then press the ENTER key to search your computer.
If the file is present, the file path is displayed. If the file is not present, a message is displayed that the system cannot find the path.

If either of these files is present, your computer may be infected. You can find tools to clean your computer and obtain up-to-date online antivirus protection from McAfee or SecureSynergy.

Also you can download free Trial VirusScan ASaP from http://www.securesynergyonline.com
Just go through the above link you will get all the info.
Thanks,
Sekhardash.

Sekhardash, it's really amazing !!!

I tried both commands and luckily nothing was found... but there's something I don't understand, as soon as I pasted the command in the command prompt, the search started ! I didn't have time to press Enter...

Really amazing !!! At what speed it ran in the command prompt window...

i did the scan also and came up clean...... :p Thanks sekhardash!
