Microsoft MOM Event Problem - KDC Request problem

I wonder if you could help? We've got over 50 mom events coming up on one of our core domain controllers - "The Security Account Manager failed a KDC request in an unexpected way. The error is in the data field. The account name was ????????????" and lookup type 0x100". I've checked the usual sites (MSDN, technet, etc.), but have found nothing useful.

A fair few people have experienced the same problem over the past year or so, but no-one has found a solution.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Dan

Can you provide the event ID from event viewer please.

The Windows Event Viewer shows 7 as the event ID. Bad sector on hard disk? Lost clusters, etc? Would this account for the KDC problem? If so, would a simple chkdsk resolve the problem?

KB812499 mentions this http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=812499

Verify the hotfix mentioned in the article is not installed. If it is disable it by setting the registry value mentioned in the article.

Is communication with the DC affected?

I doubt its caused by a physical problem with the disk no but you can verify the integrity of the db using ntdsutil

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...dowsserver2003/proddocs/standard/ntdsutil.asp

The syntax for the command (integrity) is documented in the files section of the above article.

If the DC is not functioning correctly i suggest you seize its roles and demote it using dcpromo /forceremoval you can then start a fresh and promote it again.

If it is working ignore the errors for now until a time where you can safely repair the system or find a fix.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
