Media playing

What I really would like to do is start from scratch with my media playing capabilities on my vista ultimate and vista home premium machines. I have quicktime, wmp 11, the divx codec and xvid codecs installed and what I would really like to do is start from scratch with a simple media player like vlc, media player classic, or kmplayer.

So many people out there have so many opininions i'm just wondering what is the best way to go at this.

Should I uninstall all extra media players and codecs and install vlc or the like. (I know wmp 11 is always installed) but I jsut want to keep a clean non codec heavy, non 18 media players installed, easy solution.

Like VLC or mplayer installed and running all media I can throw at it.

I just use WMP 11 and VLC. I might of installed a divx pack for WMP.

I use Foobar for Music and wmp 11 for video with my Vista Ultimate. It works great ...

I installed the vista codec pack. If need be I use Windows media classic for videos ..

I mainly am just not a fan of all the codecs.
Mainly just wondering what is going on with all these other video players.
