what media player do you use to play ape files. i use media jukebox but it clicks and pops (the CDs Are Scratch free i encode from). Is this a problem with monkey audio codec or what. but what Player do you Use.

im sticking with ape... **** ogg and mp3 this is the daddy:)

Any Other Advice Greatly Appreciated:blink:

it's funny becuase this version of winamp is better than 3.0

due to the fact there is no "j" *jump command.

in 2.81 pressing "j" will allow you to jump to a different song by typing in the name of it.

J. River Media Jukebox Pro (keep the player volume level at 50% and adjust up/down through the speakers).

Using Winamp2.9 here, works great with my ogg's ;)
.ape isn't listed in the default open dialog, i gather it can be added to winamp via a plugin?

XP Abuser, you got a URL to an .ape encoder? I'd like to give it a try :)

FYI, CDex natively has the ability to encode into APE files directly

so it does! (CDex)
Well I converted a mastered wav to ogg, mp3 and ape
Here's how the compression came out (file/size in bytes) :
Oli G & SPeedY_B - **** Up.wav 56,137,580
Oli G & SPeedY_B - **** Up.ape 39,159,360
Oli G & SPeedY_B - **** Up.ogg 5,746,840
Oli G & SPeedY_B - **** Up.mp3 5,093,249

After listening to the 3, there's no real difference between the wav and ape, and no real difference between the wav and the (quality level 5) ogg, the (128k) mp3 on the other hand showed obvious compression signs.

The quality of ape is nice, but the file size doesn't really justify it, you may aswell keep a hdd full of wav files. I think i'll stick with ogg ;)

If you miss the "J" key from Winamp 2.x, try hitting the "F3" key while you are in the playlist editor.

What's the matter with Winamp3? It does everything that 2.x does, but with better skins (MMD3).

It takes WAY more resources, hogs your memory, crashes more. I've found that there are a lot more people who prefer 2.8/2.9 over 3.0, as for the skins, when your generally using the computer, you will have other windows on top of winamp, or winamp minimised, so you rarely get to see the skins, and they don't improve the functionality at all, in fact, some skins make it near impossible to even find the damned buttons :p
It is just a personal preference though, and my preference is that I dont like WA3 :)

winamp3 sucks major bumhole. it put me off winamp for life
hence thats why everyone chooses winamp 2.81 (i think)

BTW speedy you got me using ogg now you SOB:mad: :D

and i have to say "why didnt i use this sooner":D

I am just hopin that in some future firmware of the Jukebox it will support OGG, or something like that.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
