I have been told that i can run a mail server with my adsl line. Is this true? How do i do it? does it mean i could receive any size emails without having to pay?

If i set it up it would be used by 4 people in my house.
Thanks

quick question, do you have a static or a dynamic IP address?

i have a static.... exchange running there,
yes if you have your own mailserver the only limit is what you have or set

This stuff sounds awesome.

Is it possible with a dynamic IP too?
Are there any free mail servers available for personal use (will be used by a maximum of 4-5 people)?
How would I go about setting it up?

Would be really great if someone could provide a tutorial. :)

dymanic IP, theoretically possible, but not very legistically, at least not easily, unless at a specific time you needed something, you could tell someone to send something to blahblah@1.2.3.4

Free mail servers... Try sourceforge, see if they have anything for a w32 system, havent' looked myself, but people often don't check sourceforge, they think it's all linux stuff, but I have found quite a few good windows programs there, or at least programs that have been ported to w32

setting it... RTFM... no, seriously, there should be some faq's about it, you'll have to open up the appropriate port numbers if you have a firewall, perhaps 25 or 110.

Oh yes, security is important here. One thing, ALLWAYS turn off the relay function. Otherwise you will be used as a spam relay before you know it!

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
