I'm working on a neighbors PowerBook G4 and this happens when I try to reinstall the OS or even go to reset the Ram and PRAM ("x" upon startup).

Code:

Any and all help is GREATLY APPRECIATED. :)

You can't use the OS X Tiger CD that came with another version of the Macintosh to install the OS. For example, my OS X version that came with my iBook G4 will not work on an PowerBook G4. You will need an official retail version for the install to work.

Awww crud. Well, at least I can get that from work. I didn't even know about that. I guess that helps with them keeping everything proprietary.

Any way, when the CD is NOT in the drive, I get a blinking folder with the "?" mark. Usually that means it can't detect the OS.

No, that is done because the CD's that are for those machines also contain all kinds of free software, and it would require more than 2 DVD's to at the same time contain all the different kernel combinations. The free bundled software is only licensed for the Mac the DVD's were created for.

Could also mean the HD has gone bad, it can be a multitude of problems.

Yeah, the HD was also one of my guesses. Which the way this machine looks, it might very well be that problem. BUT never the less, I am going to see if it is just a reinstall first.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
