Looking for file splitting software....

I have a rather large zip, 750 MB+, that needs to be burned on to CDRs. Does anyone know of any shareware or freeware that splits a large file into specified chunks? The first CDR will need to prompt the user to load the second CDR an so on. I dont think it is possible, but is there software that does not need to be loaded on the user end that needs to put the file back together? Or will the user need the same software to put the file back together? Thanks.

winrar will split files up, it needs to be able to see both to unzip again, so transfering from cd to desktop then unzipping will work. you have 1 .rar and the extra files start .r01 .r02 and so on
works well for my needs.

*edit you can make self extracting on that basis as well, just the 1st file is .exe the rest are .r01 again.

couldnt you just use a utility like WinRAR, and split the file up then RAR it?

does it have to be zipped?

yea, but i just wanted to know if it needed to be compressed in the first place.

Thanks for all of the answers. The is a huge data file we send to the client montly. Uncompressed, its close to 5 gigs. Compressed, its roughly 800-900 meg. So yes, compressing is definitely a good thing.

... and let's not get cynical Bronx - size is not all that matters! It could as easily be off-site backup data!

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
