anyone that tried one of the betas...how is the browser?

is it still ie, or have they made changes, I'm wondering if they made it compliant and added tabs

well...i tried the earlier ones but havnet tried any of the mor recent ones. If i remember IE was a lil different and the version was 6.5 somethin. I think the last time i used it was 4021 or somethinb but since u brought it up i am thinkin about goin to rwsbetas.com to get it.

www.microbeta.net seem to specialise on Longhorn.

They have everything from software to drivers for devices there.

Build 4051 (showcased at the PDC) was the last one I tried.

This is what IE looked like:

It includes a download manager, along with popup blocking (like IE 6 SP2), but it continues to use a SDI (no tabs), and still has problems rendering 32-bit PNGs and CSS properly. As far as I could tell, no changes were made to the underlying MSHTML rendering engine at the time.

You can also keep track of IE development on the official IE blog located here.

i kinda liked longhorn when i tried it and of course that was a year ago so i would prob like it more. The only prob i had was it was slow which of course there r tweak guides and stuff for it now. I never had a prob with it no blue screens, errors, nothin. I might give it a try but i am thinkin on how i am gonna keep xp on. I have a second drive but it has all my music/videos/programs/pics on it and its gonna take a bit to put all that on let alone my movies that would have to be recoded to be put on dvd and crap.

I'm looking forward to Longhorn when it comes out but no more betas for me. I got too many gray hairs on the last beta I think it was 4015, really sluggish but it was way over my head so I uninstalled. I tweaked myself into a coma and gave up. I really like how it looks and the features. I'm still in the process of getting ready to install SP2 so I can play around with that.

Hehe, actually what you were using was an alpha build. Betas are usually much more stable and have far fewer issues than what you saw in 4015. Give it time...now that SP2 is out of the way, the Windows team is getting back to LH development in full gear.
I'm personally going to wait until the betas begin...unless of course there's something too appealing to resist in one of the future alpha leaks. =)

If you have available free space, you could always use something like PartitionMagic to resize your existing partition. That way, you can make free space for a LH installation and dual-boot with XP, which is what I did with the PDC build.
It's really not worth the effort unless you're into .NET development though. MS released 4051 at the PDC to allow developers to get a feel for the upcoming changes. The other builds were just leaks...you weren't even supposed to have them, so they're far from being free of issues.

4015 DA! What the heck was I thinking... Oh yea I do have a 4053 laying around I forgot I installed.

4074 was released to developers at WinHEC I believe

yes u r right...me and my gf r goin out to eat with her parents so i will talk more about longhorn later. I have some stuff to say so peace

Ah, forgot about that one!
Yeah, that would be the last build that I used...got the WinHEC and the PDC mixed up

But yeah, IE remained almost the same between the two builds. It was fun to activate and play with the "glass" effect though. =)

Well...i gotta pay for PartitionMagic and i cant do that. Unless...

edit: just thought of somethin...i could just move the files from D: and put them on c: :)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
