believe it or not - the permissions and UAC threads I spawned came down to this....

When upgrading Thunderbird access to Mozmappi32.dll may be denied.

This can be resolved by disabling your webcam software - Thunderbird then proceeded to install and upgrade trouble free.

Strange but true and worth a thread I think, perhaps.
 
I disable UAC. It is nothing but a pain in the butt ...
 
careful mind might cause more issues with virtual device driver if you do that ;)

nah it will do sod all to virtual drive - and quickcam is also a pain in the but it seems...
