I need to be able to restart windows and have it log me on automatically... but also at the same time have a password (for locking windows purposes).

Is there any way to do this, or is it a stupid idea?

Oooo thanks.

I dont wanna run Tweak UI though, so there must be a registry thing I can do?

to have it log on yourself automatically then try and lock it, to bypass that all you would have to do is reboot to have it log in yourself again........ not the best idea for security:confused:

Yup, it's pretty easy using TweakUI. You can have a password and auto-login as well.
Let me try to find out which reg key it modifies ... brb

Okay, I just used a registry monitor to figure out what reg key gets modified.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

That key contains values "DefaultUserName", "DefaultDomainName" and "AutoAdminLogon" which are changed when you enable or disable auto-login.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to manually enable auto-login, since the password is stored in a different key and it's encrypted.

So basically, TweakUI is the only way.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
