local area connection

Just to enquire, Because i have install and reinstalled my cable modem a number of times.

At first, it would show as local area connection 2, After reinstall, it would show as local area connection 10 as i have reinstall up to 10 times.

Is it normal ? Any way to get it back to as local area connection 2, except for renaming the name?

Cable modem is sb4100 , motorola surfboard.
Com is running on X.p Home

Do not want to reinstall as i have reinsatll x.p abt almost 50 times since i brought the com 6 mths ago.......

So its ok to just rename it? Was just wondering as everytime i reinstall the cable modem, why it would show as local area connection 2 then would increase to show as local area connection 10..after reinstall for 10 times.
