Little maths problem

Three men go to a motel and ask for a room each for one night. The manager charges them £10 each. They pay the £30, and they go to their rooms.
The manager later realizes that he has overcharged them by a total of £5. He wants to be honest and give the men their money back, but he does not have the correct change to do it, so he decides to give them £1 each, and keep the odd £2 for himself.
This means that the guests have paid £9 each.....

Now here's the problem.

£9 X 3 = £27 + £2 = £29

So where has the other £1 gone ?????????????

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

wow thats cheap  have ya got the phone number ???

j/k

but he does not have the correct change

he never will !!!!

25 divided by 3 is :- 8.333333333333333333333333333333

:p :p :p

The phone No. is +44(0)20 7321 2233

cheap at half the price

But where's the other £1 ?

This is a classic math problem. The answer lies in the way the equation is solved. Let's look at it logically.

Each man gives the motel owner 10.
The owner returns 1 to each man.
The owner now has 27 and each man has 1.
27 + 3 still equals 30.
The owner still has the 2. It's part of the 27 he still has.
He still owes each man .66, with one man getting .67.
So, the final equation is not 27 + 2, since the 2 is still part of the 27.
The final equation is 27 + 3.

The confusion factor is that the 2 is being used twice in the riddle: (25 + 2) + 2 = 29.

It nice to get back to your roots once in a while. I solve these things for fun. Got any hard ones?

I understand it all now...... Thanks
But were you working it out in $$$$ or ££££

Whether it's dollars or pounds, the ratios are still the same. I'm in the US, but have been in GB. Love the tube.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
