Is it possible to setup outlook express to only receive e-mail from the addresses in my address book? i'm getting spammed bad and have tried different spam software. i don't want to change my e-mail address.

Thanks for the help

You can do a mail filter with "From Line Contains People" and then it will let you select all the names in your address book from there and then use any action such as delete, etc.

Its probably not a great idea for spam prevention though because obviously if you sign up on a new forum or some new site or do something like order a new game online then your ****ed as you won't get the email as it will be deleted.

I recommend talking to your ISP about options. My webhost runs a spam program that tags email as spam and also has AV built in so I never get like MyDoom type virus, etc. I recommend you check into something of that sort before taking such measures in Outlook Express

thanks for the info. i'm getting about 20 to 30 of the viagra and penis enlargement e-mails everyday. i would like to let them know i'm satisfied the way i am, but thanks anyway. they keep changing there e-mail address everytime they send one so i can't get it stopped.

You can actually just setup a filter looking for the words viagra and penis enlargement used in emails. I doubt you will find that first word or that phrase in any normal emails.

e-mail

doesn't work - they put a space between one of the letters or preceed it with some punctuation mark to try to make it different everytime. also setting the filter in outlook express seems to only allow you to delete the e-mails from those names you select from your address book. i don't think that will work either unless i'm not doing it right.

There is a way. Also you might possibly be able to set server side filters. Thats why you should check with your mail host on that. Most ISPs and hosts have ways to block from their side so you never download it period.

Yes. I've been wanting this for Outlook 2003 but after just messing around with OE, it's much easier to do in OE (go figure).

In OE (Outlook Express), goto:
Tools, Message Rules, Mail
New
Section 1: Checkmark "Where the from line contains people"
Section 2: Checkmark "Move it to the specified folder"
Section 3: Click on the "contains people" link and add your contacts, hit "OK" once and that will bring you back to the 'Select People' window. Here you will see an "Options" button, click it, then you will see "Rule Condition Options". In 'Apply Rule If:' field #1, check "Message DOES NOT contain the people below". #2 should have the 2nd radial checked as well. Click "OK" 2 times.

That should be it.
The Rule Description should look like the following:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
Where the From line does not contain <insert email addresses here>
Move it to the Deleted Items folder

Ok so basically you explained in detail what I had said earlier... Did you even read the entire thread?

Its much easier to do it in Outlook 2003, simply make a rule which does not have a select condition (ie applies to every rule) then the action will be delete (or move to spam folder) then on the next screen set the exception to "except if sender is in specified address book" (near the bottom) select the address book and done

Ya but it loads slower. Thats why Outlook Express has the name it has.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
