I have a HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8160B-16x,10x,40x. I was wondering if i could flash the firmware to make it any faster,40x or 32x? Would the same method as mentioned on the home page work?

I don't know buddy. I think that if it goes any faster the centrifical bearings might not be able to handle the added RPMs resulting in bearing freeze/failure.

Years ago, I did a firmware flash to make my Yamaha writer go from 1x to a whopping 2x !!!
However I think now its more down to the quality of constuction than the firmware which limits drives
