are there proprietary slots for the slim dvd burners. If I bought any slim dvd burner from new egg could I pop it in my dell? I'm not sure it's broken yet but if it is I would like to just buy any old one and replace it in case it goes out after my warranty period. It's an Inspiron 640m.

not too sure with dell - you should though as its a standard connection

I figured that. I just don't want to order something and have it not fit. I'm not keen on shipping things back and forth.
