They actually tried to recreate this on Mythbusters (a TV show on the Discovery Channel). They were able to get a can of biscuits to explode with enough force to hit a crash test dummy in the front seat of the car but only after heating the can up to about 165 degrees F, that is a little hotter than it normally gets in a car
