Kill Win Xp Startup Screen

I want to see wut my BIOS is doing and see wuts going on
in the background of my machine while its booting but instead
I get the annoying Gateway logo, and then the Win XP Pro
loading screen.

The whole bootup process takes about 30 seconds and no
matter what button I push (F1, F2, Esc, etc) I cant enter the
BIOS setup. And Id still like to know how to get rid of the
Win XP and Gateway screens and always see wuts running
in the background.

AMD Athlon 950mhz
20 gig HDD
16mb NVIDIA graphic card
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 0AAVWP05 (i just updated this off gateway.com site needed for XP)

Hitting the ESC key should show you what's going on.
Hitting DEL should get you into BIOS.
