Absolutely f*cking gutted over this news. The man was a legend, I had nothing but absolute respect for him and his work. Very sad day :(

I'm off work ill today, so I was just lay in bed half asleep with Radio1 on, woke up as soon as I heard it though. Like I say, absolutely gutted, can't explain how much he's done for music, the music I love, he was just a legend.

Yeah, this is tragic news, he is much liked in this area. In fact he lived just a few miles down the road. He used to go shopping in the local Tesco, I saw him many times. Such a loss

for those who don't know, you can read about him here

this is really really sad - I still have a ton of old cassette tapes from the 70's and 80's of some of his radio shows.....

He is going to be really missed....

By the way Marge, did you know he had diabetes? That can often have a knock on effect healthwise - but as you said it is still a real shock... and sad news.

Thoughts for him and his family. :(

Shocking, like I was saying to the guys on IRC earlier - a few weeks ago he was playing Picotto. He has been at the cutting edge for a long time :(

Hmm...too bad. I'm American, but I have heard of him as a big fan of Orbital and they had their "Peel Sessions" about 10 years ago. And, once in a while, I'd listen to his Radio 1 webcast, although it was certainly of no regular frequency.

What an accomplished life he led; American radio DJs certainly could never compete.
