Hi

Just want to know if these specs are good for the future.

Generic Case, 300 watt power supply
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Gigabyte 7VT600-RZ
512mb's of ram
ATI Radeon 9600 XT 256mb AGP 8X card
onboard sound
80gb hard drive, 60 gb slave
16x dvd-rom
52x cd-rw
floppy drive

Got the few new parts when old motherboard died of heat related failure, and had to have PC up and running again asap, so PC shop said they'd put in the new motherboard, and newer video card and new 80mm rear case fan. And yes I do game with this PC regularly, and chat, and listen to music, watch some videos, etc

Thank you in advance

personally...id add a soundcard .. like a turtle beach standard 5.1 or a soundblaster live ..both very inexpensive ..less than 50 bucks ..probably less than 30 and a bigger PS ..maybe a 500 watt and depending on your ram configuration .. bump it up to 1gig.

Besides that you seem set with what you have and what you are using it for.

Specs look fine if you are not seeking to push the envelope. Should keep you going for a year or two more. Might want to add more memory but otherwise it should be fine :)

Thank you so much, I was thinking about getting a newer Audigy 2, I used to have an Audigy 2 Platinum on here, but for some reason the microphone port went on it, and it was of course out of warranty, so decided to just use onboard and be settled with it. I feel pretty set with this, lately haven't done all the gaming I wanted to, end up doing something entirely different days I think I'm gonna game a while lol.

was thinking about boosting memory sometime and bigger power supply already, may even consider those closer to Christmas possibly...not sure if this year I'll be spending money on girlfriend for christmas or not--right now she isn't even answering my calls, I know she's not healthy, but all of a sudden just doesn't answer calls, so I think I'll be gaming a ton soon on here.

If you're not intending to play the latest games such as HL2 and WoW or video encoding but use the machine for general stuff such as web browsing and word processing then your machine would probably go for another 2-3 years since there isn't any apps that demand a lot processing power.

On board sound is adequate for most things. If you have a good 4.1 or higher setup than upgrade otherwise i would save my pennies.

I do own Half Life 2, but haven't played it much lately, and I also have Full Spectrum Warrior and SPlinter Cell, I do game a bit, but not all that much lately, but I'm sure I will start doing it more the way things are in my personal life right now.

I have Klipsch 4.1 Speaker system, but currently only using 2.1 until I get my speakers stands for the rear speakers. I think I'm doing ok considering with this PC..I could've spent more and got it a little better, but it does run well now with the newest parts.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
