I WANT TO KNOW HOW CAN I DISABLE THE IPC SHARE THAT XP CREATED
IS NOT LOGICAL MY DRIVES TO BE SHARED BY DEAFULT
DOAS ANYONE KNOW THE WAY OF TURNING THIS "SPY" FEATURE OFF?

Start>Control Panel>Admin Tools>Computer Management>Shared
Folders>Shared> then

Right-click on $IPC, 'Stop Sharing'

ONLY REFRESH AND HELP IS THERE
DOWSNT HAVE A "STOP SHARING"CHOISE

Isn't the IPC a pretty important share? Isn't IPC an administrative share for accessing the computer at all (meaning log into IPC to see the shares or something)?

turn off the all caps lock please. its considered shouting.

does any of you answered my question and i didnt undersand it?
or we are talking just to talk and spend our time?

You do NOT want to disable this share. It is crutial to your PC running properly. Nobody has access to this share besides the PC itself.

IPC$: Used for remote administration of network services using named pipes.

However, if you really want to remove it follow these steps:

Start
Run
Type 'cmd' and press OK
Type 'net share /delete IPC$'

I warn you though, it may mess up your system or return on its own. Good luck.

It went away on my test machine just fine.

noop
it says

System error 5 has occurred.

Access is denied.

something is wrong
i also noticed that i dont have a menu someone wrote here on my right click on shares :"stop sharing"
i only have "refresh" and "help" nothing else

yes but the ipc$ is still there i managed to delete all the others
the only share that refuse to go away is ipc$
any other ideas?

Just curious, why do you want to remove it? You are not supposed to.

first of all the ipc share is hidden. thats what the $ does. the chances of someone getting access off it is slim.

u need administrator privilages to remove the share!, that is y it says access denied. but, because it is a hidden share used for remote access and becuase it is a system share you CAN NOT permantly disable it. as soon as u reboot it will be shared again.

if you can not get to it via the computer management console then do as madmatt said type:(in a dos window)
net share IPC$ /delete

dude in all honestly, u don't really need to be concerned about it. it does not pose that much of a system security risk.
have you renamed your administrator and guest accounts????

oDin.
