IP software

I'm connected to ADSL and my home phone is now connected to voice IP.Is there a kind of software or application where I could connect my mic/headset to the pc and dial to speak over the phone rather than hanging to a conventional receiver ?
Any suggestions appreciated.

How are you connected to Voice Over IP? Do you plug your phone directly into the ADSL modem, or do you plug it into a special device from a Voice Over IP provider?

The phone is plugged to a normal phone line ( off the wall ) but it transmit signal/ dial ( ??) through the ADSL modem.In other words , it uses the same modem as my internet.And the provider is the same as my internet.

Silly answer. Ask your provider they're the experts. Not to mention you are paying them for service...

I think is the best solution.What about phone dialer ? Something which we used to have on Windows 95 before ? Just the keypad and I dial through ??

Then you'd need a regular modem. Which plugs into the wall phone socket. Which is routed through the ADSL modem. Which runs on the phone line. *brain meltdown*

If the ADSL modem routes the phone traffic back through the socket you can't use the computer for your IP telephony. You can only do this if the ADSL modem passes through the SIP traffic as far as I know. I have a separate box for my IP telephony, and that only gives out an analog phone signal. So no computer phoning for me either.
