If I open up Internet Explorer and type "2007 Education Conferences" just like that in the address bar, I get a syntax error. (see attachment).

Seems that somehow I'm missing the search feature within IE. I have verified everything is up to date, no apparent spyware after scans and hijackthis logging - any thoughts?

From the same PC if you login to AOL it works. I know it's a different browser but I just thought I would toss that out there.

Here is also a hijackthis log, some info changed for privacy purposes

This basically ties down to the lack of ability to be able to search from the address bar in IE.

Going to wrap my hands around this laptop tomorrow morning at 8AM EST - I'll post back if I fix it :)

Woo, fixed it.

First thing you need to do is to ensure the machine has a search option configured, wether your choice be Microsoft or Google (or another) -

Set Search to Microsoft Default.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Use Search Asst"="yes"
"Search Page"="http://home.microsoft.com/access/allinone.asp"
"Search Bar"="http://home.microsoft.com/search/lobby/search.asp"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL]
""="http://home.microsoft.com/access/autosearch.asp?p=%s"
"provider"=""

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search]
"SearchAssistant"="http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchasst.htm"

Set Default search to Google

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Use Search Asst"="no"
"Search Page"="http://www.google.com"
"Search Bar"="http://www.google.com/ie"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL]
""="http://www.google.com/keyword/%s"
"provider"="gogl"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search]
"SearchAssistant"="http://www.google.com/ie"

Once that is done, add the following to the registry -

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]

String Value: "{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}"
Value:

Note the string of characters is for the name of the string value, and the value itself is empty/blank.

Just wanted to share incase anyone else runs into this :)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
