internet explorer help!

hi there ive suddenly got a strange problem when on the net,when im on certain sites if i click on a link, the page does not open up but sits in the task bar and i can only view it by right clicking on it then on maximise ??. i believe its a setting the kids may have changed but i cannot find it please help its driving me nuts.

Sure those aren't popup ads that hide behind the main browser until you close the main window?

nope cos they are on sites iv'e used for ages
