Intel v AMD questions

Is there any place that has an explantion of Intel and AMD processors, I.E the difference netween an AMD Athlon, Duron XP, + and intel pentium, celeron, centrino?

I obviously know the difference between them just wanted a bit more detail and some intel v amd comparisons, both websites of the manufacturers are useless for that sort of thing.

Many reviews, benchmark testing, some technical detail about features.

Do a search on Athlon or Pentium. They have one article with benchmarks from 65 cpu's dating back to the Pentium II.

note that toms does have a bias vis-a-vis intel v/s amd...

so read it for technical information if you must but don't put much weight in the graphs... toms generally manage to add some ridiculously confusing graphs to the equation...

still their explanation of the architecture should suffice to explain the differences

LMAO, they are pro whoever gave them the most hardware to play with last.

Though having ot be pro ATI seems to be sticking in their craws right now.

Like SAZAR said. Read for technical content. Most sites praise whoever's stuff they are testing in some way or form. The part that has me ROFL is how they say one product is the best when the difference is <1% across the whole test range.

One distrubing thing I've noted lately is Tom's is doing fewer head to head tests between competitors. Seems to be more which flavor of a particular chipset/processor is best these days.

I think Toms used to be very AMD biased a couple years ago, but lately seem to be leaning towards Intel, maybe they make a better product...........

Yeah, no need for a huge PSU or big fans.

The Intels use more clock puleses than the AMDs so the athlons are faster and doing things where as the intels take a lil longer but are more stable and stay at a lower temp and with them being at a lower temp even with the basic intel heatsink think u get with retail cpus u can overclock them quite abit.

amd and intel went different routes with their chip designs...

amd decided they wanted more work per clock cycle... and achieved this with lower latencies than intel..

intel alternatively went with higher clock speeds to compensate for the lesser work per clock cycle...

@ the high end of the spectrum (non 64bit processors... for arguments sake) intel and amd processors generate around the same amount of heat... although I must say intel processors overclock quite well

I just finished installing and setting up a p4 3.0c processor on an msi 865 Neo2 fisr mobo with corsair xms ddr3200 ... and it is quite a revelation... I absolutely love PAT
