Im a newb to all this stuff, the only things I ever installed were a video card, ram and a power supply :p. Should I attempt to replace my old mobo with this new one? or wait for some help from someone else....(the new mobo and cpu is aching to be installed i cant take it!!!)

Go for it! It's a good learning process. Just be careful with installing the CPU.

yeah. biggest things to worry about is not rushing when installing both the CPU and mobo. i say the mobo too, cause if something's not lined up right (like maybe the IO ports on the back of the mobo don't line up right with the backplate that comes with the mobo for the back of the case), it could put strain on something on the motherboard, and possibly damage it. usually just have to put the motherboard in at a slight angle with the IO ports down first, and get those lined up with the holes in the backplate that was provided, and then set the motherboard in, and line up the holes on the mobo with the holes where you put the screws. easiest thing to do is make sure that the IO ports are correctly in the openings in the backplate, and then line up at least one of the holes (preferrably near said IO ports) and put it in... that way if you move the other side of the mobo to try to line it up, you won't throw the others out of alignment as well.

sorry if i sounded a bit confusing there. I can practically install a mobo with my eyes closed...... but describing to someone how to do it, or anything computer related, has always been a trouble for me.

Ill do it for 100$ haha JK Just be patient, take your time, read teh directions and you should be good. Its quite easy. After doing it a few times you'll be able to do it with 1 hand tied behind ur back.

wahoo!!

I just finished installing my new mobo and cpu! :D took awhile since im a new and have never done it but it was a good experience hehe. had troubles understanding how to do the front USB ports though and my front power led still doesnt' work but the wire for the power led has 3 inserts while the manual and mobo only has 2 to fit it *odd* shrug i guess it's okay

nethign else i should do post-installation?

eeh... i still never plugged in the stuff for the front (or in my case top) USB and audio ports...... mostly cause the connectors on mine for each wire are completely separate.... not just one plug to stick there and ready to go.

as for post-install........ format if you hadn't already done so. lol. best way to make sure everything is working it's best. i've read sometimes where people were able to get stuff workin after changing mobo's and stuff..... but usually notice a bit higher performance after reformatting.

don't know why, but one of the led lights on my keyboard stayed on after i shut down....

That means the case led has a dual color led. (yellow = standby, green = on).
You can move the wires around in the header to get the green=onif you want.

"Off" is not really OFF with ATX standard MB's. They is actually a some pwoerr left on for allowing remote start up. If you turn the power off at the PSU or outlet it may go out. If that does not work then it is drawing a little power from a USB or LAN connection. My optical mouse does this. If it bugs you plug the computer computer into a powerstrip with surge suppressor. And switch that off. You should anyway for protection when you are away.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
