I posted this over at the internet, but it should be3 posted here as well.

one of the things stored in your index.dat file, (there are probably other things as well), is the amount of times you visit websites.

for instance, right click on one of your favorites, go to properties, go to web document.

there on the bottom, you'll see "visits"

clear your index. dat file, and this becomes unknown.

mine dosnt show that, how do i make it?

don't know...I don't remember doing anyhtin to my view to get this "visits" to show

And the tool you want for reading and cleaning index.dat is in this thread:

http://www.ntfs.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31394&highlight=index.dat

Each of Internet Explorer's primary folders (directories) - Cache, Cookies and History make use of an indexing technique to maintain information. The index information is contained in files named Index.dat.

For Cookies and for Cache, the Index.dat files are basically URL entries and pointers to the associated real files.
