I mean is there improvements in audio, video or performance?
or should I stick to the good ol' DirectX 8.1?

btw, Does anybody knows what's the best driver from the 43.xx series?

what graphics card do you have. If it isnt a Geforce FX or a Radeon 9700 or 9800 then I wouldnt bother. As those are the only true DX 9 cards

I have a Geforce 2 MX 200 graphics card and when I installed DX 9 it pretty much made things worst.
so if you have an old graphics card like me, i don't recommend installing it.

it is :)

all Rx3xx cards are dx9 cards... fully supporting the standard... the nv3x lineup has some cards supporting dx9 more than others... but are dx9 for the most part..

I just joined the ATi camp, I havent been fully briefed yet :p

No. The GE FX and the ati 9500 and up support hardware dx9. Everything else benchmarks like a pig when using dx9 features.

When you get vid card with dx9 hardware support or want to buy your first dx9 game then install dx9. By then it will probably be dx9.1x or higher.

installing directx 9 or not does not... or rather SHOULD not make your system crash or not run properly..

fact is only a few hardware components support dx9... and the major differences are the way shaders et al work and effects... like water... are rendered...

if you do not have a dx9 component... in future dx9 you may not be able to render some effects... thats pretty much it... :)

the benchmarks that use dx9 calls basically give lower scores for non dx9 parts because non-dx9 hardware cannot run some of the tests.. it does not mean these products are inferior...

the geforce 4 ti series is a dx8 product... supporting upto pixel shader version 1.3..

dx9 cards are supposed to support pixel shader version 2.0...

also directx 9 specifies using fp24 color precision... minimum... though nvidia has been lobying microsoft hard to lower this to fp16 so they can bench better... their dx9 products run in fixed integer 12 (which is what the disabled scores in futuremark 3dmark03 benchmark was supposedly doing) fp16 or fp32... directx 9 specifies minimum fp24 precision...

ati dx9 products all run fp 24 ALL the time...

btw... fp == floating point...

Well I have tried and used successfully the 43.00 & 43.03, I prefer the 43.03s they seem good so far :)

look here for them.. www.guru3d.com and go to the nvidia drivers page.

dx9.0a has been removed from M$ site!.. www.warp2search.net has the word.

stuart.

New Games Require Directx 9, No matter what card you have. If you are using Directx 9 i recommend you install 9a.

This release also resolves an issue with DirectX 9.0 where some multiplayer games or MSN Messenger may not work correctly. A number of minor bugs were also resolved.

Performance enhancement to the runtime texture management in Direct3D.
General performance improvements to D3DX
Fix for a potential PSGP memory overwrite in Direct3D.
Support for anti-aliased render targets added
Update for DirectPlay to address some network connectivity issues using some UPnP rout

9a should be faster than 9.

so if i had updated it to directx 9a... how do i uninstall it and install back to directx 8?

is it the only way is to use the system restore?

There is a directx uninstaller floating around try 3dguru.com I think they have it

I installed 9.0, then 9.0a on top. No problems, seems to have helped a little in BF1942.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
