Off topic, but Lindows is NOT free. In fact, Lindows could be facing a lawsuit for it.

All Lindows is is a basic Linux distribution with a KDE front end with a program called Wine preinstalled and configured. The reason they can face a lawsuit is because under the GNU licensing for Linux, you can not charge for a third party free software. Since Linux is free and Wine is free, by them offering a paid only product, it does not adhere to the GNU licensing agreement. Personally, I would just install my favorite version of Linux, install a graphical user interface, and install Wine myself. Free Lindows!

Also, anyone running Lindows is facing a security threat just as bad as Windows. It is a real threat to the Linux community. Lindows runs EVERYTHING at root. Users, software, snipplets, etc. Thus, this makes it prone to viruses (something that standard Linux isn't prone to) or other forms of hacking.

1. Theres a rule out there like the law of physics, ANYTHING DIGITAL CAN BE CrACKED.
2. Have you seen how fast they crack stuff lately, look at the game systems, and all the stuff.
3. Everything is becoming digital, so one day everything will be crackable.
4. Even if they do change the key algorythim, they will still crack that and release a new keygen .
5. I am not talking about warez, just expressing my feelings so mods please dont get mad at me.
BTW, watch out for 0-day cracks. LOL

the only thing you should have to pay lindows for is the CD's if you cant download the O's when i 1st got mandrake 8.0 i only payed £5 for 2 cds , but i still see things like redhat and susi linux in the shops for around £25, but they come in a nice box and user manuals so i guess thays why.

I used to really distrust the government with my pricavy but it looks like M$ is in first place..... I have more faith in a hacker with my personel info than M$..... I was a Windows advocate for a long time but I just came to wits end with his nonsence now I only run XP in VPC and that's it Mac/Linux even BeOS rather than one more privacy & money bleeding version of M$.... Don't get me wrong I'm not PC hating or M$ hating I'm merly tired of being told how to use a computer and by what means I can do it... I love that speech you wrote man, you spoke for most of us, we do feel like you. Man i remember when i had windows 1.0, it was hell of alot less invasive than XP. IT was simpler.... What ever happen to good privacy, what ever happen to our admendments, what ever happen to our rights. I feel like marchin up to the lawns of congress and pissing on the lawns of the white house... I can't believe how corporate america is trying to control everything... BUt always remember theres a good side and bad side to everything so dont judge everyone the same. I say we all join together and make a group who cares about pirvacy, i know theres lots out there, but we can do it too!!! There are third word countries (Russia, India) where people are employed to by-pass software dongles or even hardware ones. These are very experienced teams of programmers and hardware reverse-engineers that operate at the highest levels of society.

This argument is donkeys years old and I'm supprised that it still continues today 15 to 20 years years since it's conception.

If you only purchase two items of software one must be the operating system as the help and support (and bug fixes) will save you money. The other is....................

I found a story that talks about the big r & d project that Microsoft as undertaking along with Intel and AMD as it was sort of touch on in an earlier reply in this thread.

The sad? thing with this sh!t is that many people will kick Microsoft out of the box once for all. I don't think ANY company will run any hard/software that they can't control. AMD and Intel can build as many CPU's like these as they want to, It wont help them if the OS is Open Source.


And what's happening to all these companies screaming about piracy when noone is running Windows anymore? They are digging their own grave, they just haven't realized it yet...

Well, I hope when SP1 comes out there is a good tool released, or a cracked version of the SP, or the SP will be no more of a pain in the but than it is now (as in the current Keygen is still good).

I'd love to completly switch over to Linux, and if it was not for games I would.

Well..... MS Visual Studio and MS offices for doing work stuff at home is an necesarry. But, WINE seems to be OK with those.



How far away is the Service Pack release suppose to be?
