If a secondary HDD dies....?

Hi,

I guess that I am fortunate that I have not yet had a HDD failure at home. I have been thinking about this more lately as I now have a media server with 5 HDD's in it. This machine runs 24/7. What I am wondering is if one of the secondary (ie not the windows boot drive) drives goes belly up while the system is up and running will it cause windows to hang? If this would cause a hang then I guess that nothing short of raid (except for raid 0) would give you any real assurance that system would continue operating in spite of a HDD failure?

TIA

Jesse

If one of the five drives dies that isn't the boot, I don't think it would case a hang unless there is an open program that is running or loading a file from that particular drive. However, if another program or User Interaction tries to access that drive after it has failed, it will cause the PC to hang momentarily.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
