IE saves images wrong

Whenever I try to save an image in IE lately, it saves it as a bitmap. Even if the image is a .gif or .jpg, it will only allow me to save it as a bitmap (unless i choose a filename ending in .jpg, but the resulting jpeg is a huge file, just as it would have been if it were a bitmap). Is there a setting somewhere that would tell IE to stop being dumb and let me save source images in their true format??

Thanks!!

In the resulting Save As... dialogue box, click the Save as type drop down menu at the bottom of the screen, and select your supported file types: (.bmp, .gif, etc...)

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. That drop down menu is only giving me the option of saving as a bitmap, even when I know the source file is a jpg or gif.

Thanks!! Seems to work!! (very strange solution to very strange problem though). I really appreciate your effort!

Seems the problem was I had too many temporary internet files......

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
