I use winXP for quite a while now and the first i installed it, it was fine but i had gotten problems and was forced to format and reinstall.
the 2nd time i installed it recongnized my IDE drives as Scsi so i can't change the transfer mode from DMA to UDMA, it didn't bother me much, but now it does, very much , and i would gladly receive any soultions you might have.
the HD is Ata100 and even if some think, it shoulden't show up as a scsi controller.
my specs are:

AMD Athlon 1.13ghz
Iwill KA-266 (updated Ali chip last week with latest ide updates, still no change)
Creative Geforce DDR
2 NIC C-net Cards (one for adsl one for networking)
384MB DDR ram (Hyundai)

thanks in advance

Have you installed any hardware since the first time you installed XP and everything went OK.

2 questions. Do you have a separate IDE controller card, and if not are your HD's plugged into the primary ports, or do you have them plugged into Raid ports?

No, i don't have another ide controller card and the HDs aren't plugged into a raid controller. but yes, they are both connected to the primary IDE controller.
