i want to use windows media player to rip to mp3's, not WMA's. I found the tweak that let me set up the mp3 stuff in there but it gave me an error when i tried it that said:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file cannot be found.

when i click on more help, it says that no more help is available.

now i know someone, somewhere got it to work. what else do i need to download (a codecs?) to get this to work? or do i need to rip to WAV first, then mp3? ... if so, how? see... im even confusing myself now.

i just wanna be able to pop in a CD, and rip to mp3 (for free hopefully).

any help is appreciated.

Nice sig man, I can't help you with WMP though, never use it.

cdex works great. exactly what i was looking for.

thx a mil.

CDex is good... but u might want to try EAC

http://www.exactaudiocopy.de

then you'll need to download LAME (which is a mp3 encoder) but the guys at exact audio copy will give you the links =)

what CDex does is a good Wav -> mp3 job mainly cause it uses lame...

but EAC does the CD -> Wav bit extremely well.

So that the entire process is good... use EAC coupled with LAME... EAC has functionality included to integrate LAME with it =)

just make sure that u use the recommended r3mix settings
