I got a blue screen on start up

Please help me, I just bought a Compaq Presario 2800, with the Window XP Home edition installed. I installed Quick Cam 5.3 for my optical camera ball and it worked fine for about three days...now all I get is a blue screen when I start up. I can't get into safe mode to reinstall my operating system with the restore CD's. Compaq sent me a box to send it back to them but I am afraid i will loose everything on my hard drive. I have some VERY special pictures on my hard drive of my son's birth and I sure don't want to loose them...can anyone help me out? 😕

We will need the blue screen stop error. Should look something like: "0x000......" Right down all numbers and words associated with it, then post them here. We can help from there.
