is there anything out there i can download that would like sit on my desktop and tell me like my bandwidth and other hardware/software stuff like ram usage and the temp. inside my comp and stuff like that?

Norton, McAfee and Ontrack utilities uses a ton of resources to measure resources...

CoolMon seems to be the way to go... With motherboard monitor it'll measure more than you want... I saw a "plug in" for motherboard monitor from Palick Soft, HDD Tempature... It's supposed to use MBM to measure HD temps, but it does'nt work on my system...
