How to reduce AVI file size?

Hi,

Recently, I downloaded an AVI file well over 700mb in size which I cannot burn on a CDR. Is there a program that will allow me to reduce(chop) some of the unnecessary footage but still keep the AVI file intact? Anyone, please?

you need to get yourself some video editing software. i use adobe premiere. search around for free video editing software on the internet.

Winrar doesn't compress avi or most movie formats for that matter very much more than they already are. You can probably shave off around 5-10 mb off a 700mb file on full compression. compression programs do their best with multiple similar files and redundant code. Download virtual dub and/or other similar divx tools at Divx-Digest

If you want something very small and easy to use get AVIchop

works for me every time all you do is tell it to chop 700mb to 350mb and it does it exaclty that...

Just got back from a business trip and trying to stay awake ....

I think I will try AVIchop first suggested by StewartBMW2000. It sounds like fast and easy work since I'm too lazy and not too bright .... Thanx again everyone!
