How often should i defrag?

When you delete a file, that particular fileid isn't immediately re-used. Only after a very large number of files have been created does the file system go back and start re-using fileids - incrementing a sequence number (part of the fileid

well, here's my insight to why this happens, and now, it seems right obvious.

the whole purpose of the mtf zone is an effort to maintain a contigous nature.

if the any of this information were deleted, that would circumvent the effort at maintaing the cintigous nature of future information
 
A daily defrag is a waste of time and actually not good for the hard drive...it puts a lot of stress on the drive and I can't believe that you run a computer so ragged that it get's fragmented in one day. In my opinion every two weeks and that's only if you really need to. ( of course opinions vary but I have gone over this with people in the industry whose opinion I value.)
